Due to our continued expansion we are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our esteemed team in the Severn Valley region. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be confident and self-motivated, and a key member of the customer focused Commercial team. 

Under the guidance of a Quantity Surveyor mentor, you will contribute to the team from day one and build a career on solid foundations. You will need effective negotiating skills and a sound knowledge of construction techniques and material costs. Of vital importance is a good knowledge of relevant Health & Safety requirements in the industry. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the procurement of sub-contract tender packages.
  • Preparing sub-contractor orders and payment schedules.
  • Assistance with pricing of system-based Bill of Quantities.
  • Evaluating and agreeing variations and instructions.
  • Processing of sub-contractor invoices including weekly bricklayer payments
  • Attending monthly site visits to measure and record build progress.
  • Assisting with compilation of in-house site valuations.
  • Assisting Quantity Surveyors with compiling site appraisals.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the sub-contract/supplier enquiry lists for approval.
  • Preparing full enquiry packs and collating all tender information, ensuring fully compliant tender packs are issued, return tenders are analysed and compliant bids received.
  • Preparing tender comparison sheets, including making recommendations for placing sub-contract orders and negotiation with sub-contractors to ensure full compliance with specification and best practice.
  • Ensuring new sub-contractors are on COINS and that the certification is up to date.
  • Carrying out ad hoc drawing measures and take-offs
  • Ensuring sub-contractor weekly and monthly applications for payment are analysed, checked and interim payments are prepared for approval in line with Authorisation Levels and Commercial Procedures, including keeping payment record sheets up to date, highlighting any claims for additional works outside of the budget estimate summary and settling all final accounts expediently after works are complete.
  • Issuing variation instructions and contra charges as appropriate.
  • Carrying out monthly progress checklists and inputting on to the valuation system including MOS.
  • Attending meetings that may be necessary in the performance of your duties.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the house building industry.

Desirable skills and experience:

 

  • Experience of building construction in a quantity surveying or project managing role.
  • Construction industry related qualifications.
  • Good knowledge of relevant Health & Safety requirements in the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and materials.
  • Flexible with the ability to solve problems and find solutions.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of COINS an advantage.
  • CSCS card holder.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
