WHY BIRMINGHAM IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE

Birmingham is known as the UK’s second city, behind London. And it’s easy to see why many people choose to call it home. Families with school age children will be pleased to know that there are 105 schools rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted in and around the city. These include St Matthew’s CofE Primary School, Heartlands Academy, Aston Manor Academy and Cromwell Junior and Infant School. The city also has five universities – the most outside London – including the 14th best in the UK, the University of Birmingham.

Lovers of culture are well catered for in Birmingham. The city has its own ballet – Birmingham Royal Ballet – and its own orchestra – the City of Birmingham Orchestra – as well as plenty of theatres and museums too. Birmingham City Library also has one of the largest Shakespeare collections in the world. Birmingham’s food scene also rivals that of London, with six Michelin starred restaurants, as well as the famous Balti Triangle.

Birmingham also has 8000 acres of green space (around 25% of the city) and is home to 571 parks– 15 of which have Green Flag status. Its 35 miles of canals is also more than Venice. With its position at the heart of the Midlands, Birmingham has unbeatable transport links. It’s served by the M5, M6, M40 and M42 motorways, while Birmingham New Street is the busiest train station outside London and the national hub for CrossCountry – the most extensive long-distance train network in the UK. Birmingham Airport is also close by in Solihull.
