Known the world over as a famous seaside town, Blackpool is packed with fantastic options for families. Those with school-age children will be pleased to know there are 37 schools in the area rated as either “Outstanding” or “Good” by Ofsted. Those with “Outstanding” status include Layton Primary School, Blackpool St Nicholas CofE Primary School, Park Community Academy and Highfurlong School. Blackpool and The Fylde College is also a teaching partner of nearby Lancaster University and offers plenty of higher education courses.
Blackpool is renowned for its family-friendly attractions including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, SEA LIFE Blackpool, Madame Tussauds, Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Water Park, the Blackpool Tower Circus and of course the Blackpool Illuminations. As well as the famous Blackpool Ballroom, the town’s musical credentials continue with a thriving music scene based around many independent venues.
Those that love to get outside and appreciate the great outdoors will enjoy Blackpool’s eight beaches, spread across seven miles of golden sands. Favourites in the local area include Lytham St. Anne’s beach, Bispham beach, Cleveleys beach and of course Blackpool beach itself. Nearby Morecambe and Fleetwood are also well worth a visit too.

As well as having an international airport in its vicinity, Blackpool also has great transport links to the rest of Lancashire and the North West.
Blackpool Airport covers both international and domestic flights, whilst the M55 motorway connects it with the rest of the national motorway network. Manchester and Liverpool are both around an hour and a half away, whilst the likes of Preston, Blackburn, Burnley and Bolton are much closer.
The town is also home to the only surviving first-generation tramway in the UK. And whilst it’s a great tourist attraction it also carries around 6,500,000 passengers every year and runs for 11 miles from Star Gate in Blackpool to Fleetwood.
