Northam is a market town sitting on the northern Devonshire coast. It’s a location with plenty of historic charm and scenic winding streets filled with period buildings. The local community is close-knit, but friendly and welcoming, giving Northam a quaint, quintessentially English village feel.
Although Northam offers a relaxed, peaceful way of life, it’s a modern town with plenty to offer its residents. Northam has a busy town centre filled with both local businesses and national chains, including a selection of supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and bars. The town has a library, a leisure centre, and a range of other recreational sites, like an equestrian centre and the Royal North Devon Golf Club. The villages of Westward Ho!, Buckleigh, Appledore, Diddywell, and Silford are all close by, expanding the amenities available to residents.
The town is excellent for education. Northam has seven primary schools in and around the town – four of which are rated “Good” by Ofsted, with the other three awaiting inspections as they’ve all recently been reopened. Bideford College is a mixed secondary with a sixth form that serves the town and surrounding villages, that’s also rated “Good” by Ofsted.
Of course, one of Northam’s strongest selling points is its picturesque location. The sandy stretch of Westward Ho! Beach and Greysands Beach lies to the northwestern border of the town, beyond the protected Northam Burrows Country Park. The Hartland Devon Heritage Coast sits just to the south of Northam, with North Devon National Landscape to the north. If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, Northam has some of the best countryside the UK has to offer right on its doorstep.
