A semi-rural village just outside Wigan with a population of around 10,000 residents, Shevington is a cosy, calm place to live but one with its own distinct character and bustling local community. The village has a mix of national and local shops, some great pubs like The Plough and Harrow, its own GP surgery, and a community centre. Shevington holds numerous events throughout the year, including the annual Shevington Fete.

Shevington has three local primary schools – Millbrook Primary School, St. Bernadette's Catholic Primary School, and Shevington Vale Primary School – all of which are rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The village has one secondary school, Shevington High School, which is also rated as ‘Good’. There are four other secondary schools in the local area, three of which are rated ‘Good’, whilst nearby St John Rigby RC Sixth Form College is rated as ‘Excellent’.
