WHY STOCKPORT IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
Big things are happening in Stockport. A three-year capital program worth £322 million is regenerating the Interchange, Exchange and Merseyway, attracting countless new private investments. But even before this, the town has been making huge strides to become a beacon for growth in its own right — not just a Manchester satellite.
The famous, enormous Viaduct leaves you in no doubt that Stockport is a place where dreams of industry and creative ambition align. From its historic maker’s market and snaking cobbled alleys to the chic barbers, delis and record stores springing up on Hillgate and Wellington Street, the town continues to prosper. The town centre has a thriving independent scene, whilst the Merseyway shopping centre has all your major brands and supermarkets.
For entertainment, there are several theatres such as The Plaza, an example of pristine 1932 art deco architecture. Several festivals run throughout the year for food, drink and live music, and numerous bars and restaurants cater for great tastes more regularly, with Market Hall offering quality local produce. You’ll also find Michelin starred dining at Where the Light Gets In.
If you’re moving to Stockport with the family, there’s plenty to savour too. Parks and amusements dot the town itself and surrounding areas. Since you’re a short bus ride from Cheadle, Didsbury and Edgeley, finding excellent schools isn’t a problem either. There are 36 in Stockport and the surrounding area that have been recognised as “Outstanding” by Ofsted in the last decade and a half. The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford are all close by.
Stockport also has excellent travel links, with London only two and a half hours away on the train and Manchester city centre just a 10 minute train journey. Manchester Airport is also just a 15 minute drive away.
