Located just 16 miles from Manchester, 10 miles from Bolton and 17 miles from Liverpool, Wigan is perfectly placed for residents to enjoy the hustle and bustle of cities and towns close by, but with a slower pace of living. Wigan is a particularly attractive place to live for families with school age children, being home to 14 schools rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted. In fact, over 90% of the schools in the town have either “Outstanding” or “Good” status. The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moore’s University and the University of Bolton are all close by.

Wigan is packed with open space, with 70% of the town being made up of green spaces – favourites include Worthington Lakes, Fairy Glen and Haigh Woodland Park – whilst the town has plenty of retail opportunities and much in the way of pubs, restaurants and bars. Sports fans are also well catered for in Wigan, with both Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club and Wigan Athletic Football Club playing in the town.

The ideal position of Wigan means the town is well served by good transport links. It’s right at the heart of the motorway network, offering easy access to the M6, M58 and M61. The West Coast train line also runs right through the town, meaning Manchester, Liverpool and London are within easy reach. Both Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport are also close by.
