Colyton Show Home Brings Danish Inspiration to Devon

Devon house hunters were given a demonstration of Danish-inspired ‘Hygge’ interior design at the launch of our new show home at Maple Cross in Colyton.

Dozens of visitors flocked through the doors of our four-bedroom Poplar show home on the launch day to see the minimalistic interiors designed to evoke a sense of well-being and relaxation, whilst enjoying tasty pastries from Colyton-based Bear Bread Bakery.

It was the first chance for people to see inside the new homes we are building at Maple Cross where what you see is what you get.

Maple Cross is one of the first Wain Homes developments to offer our new all-inclusive, premium specification, with contemporary Amtico flooring and integrated appliances, oak doors and banister rails, fitted wardrobes and fully finished kitchens in a choice of styles – and so much more – all included in the price.

Maple Cross has also been designed with energy efficiency in mind, heated by air source heat pumps, which harness ambient air to generate warmth, making them both highly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Additionally, every home features EV charging points, supporting the move toward a greener future.

Reflecting the development’s semi-rural location, our interior designers were briefed to follow Hygge principles with a nod to country modern.

A calm, neutral palette of warm chocolate browns, washed light woods, textured light linens and rattans with natural tone walls and a modern Shaker-style kitchen combine to create a cosy and comfortable atmosphere, appealing to a wide range of people who love the country lifestyle.

The open-plan, double-aspect lounge has been fitted with an oversize sofa with chaise end and timeless panelling, textured walls, layers of shelving holding potteries and books and natural rattans perfectly encapsulates country-modern.

Wallpaper within panelling is a feature stand-out in the primary bedroom and bedroom two has been set up as a funky guest room, with waved headboard and colour blocking in a stencil arch.

A further bedroom has been subtly styled as a craft room and Wain also paid tribute to Colyton’s links to cycling, with a fun bicycle-themed bedroom. Soanes Cycles in Colyton is one of the oldest cycling shops in the UK, tracing its roots back to 1902 and the popular Axe Valley Pedallers cycling group is based in nearby Seaton.

We are building six of our Poplar properties at Maple Cross and the show home has demonstrated how attention to detail can make every room an interesting place. Dark chocolate textured wallpaper in the downstairs cloak room and artwork within panelling down the stairs shows how every space in the property can have a big impact.
