North West Colleagues Choose Mind as Charity of the Year

Our North West region has announced mental health charity Mind as its charity of the year.

As in previous years, the North West region has chosen to support a charity close to the hearts of our Warrington-based colleagues.

This year, the team has chosen to support Mind, a charity that holds personal significance for our colleague Andrew Dickenson, our Managing QS, who sadly lost his best friend, Martin Edwards, in 2024 after Martin struggled with mental health problems. Aware of Andrew’s connection to the cause, his teammates felt that supporting Mind would be a meaningful way to show their support.

In memory of Martin, Andrew and a group of friends are taking on the Cheshire Ring in August this year, a three-day, 98-mile walk around the canals of Cheshire, to raise money for Mind.

Our fundraising for Mind is already off to a strong start. We raised £640 from a coffee morning, and we have plenty more planned for 2025, including entering three teams into the Dragon Boat Race on the River Weaver in Northwich this July and hosting a North West Corporate Golf Day.

Mind is a charity that supports hundreds of thousands of people every year who are living with mental health issues. One in four people experience a mental health problem each year, and one in six report mental health as an ongoing challenge, highlighting how important Mind’s work is.

Wendy Dolan, Sales Office Manager at Wain Homes North West, said: “At Wain Homes North West we try, where possible, to choose charities that are close to the hearts of our people. Willowbrook Hospice, The Christie Hospital, MacMillan and Clatterbridge are all charities that have cared for the loved ones of our colleagues. Raising money for such charities means everything to them and brings us together as one team.

“Lastly, we would like to stress the importance of speaking out if you are struggling, we are here to share the load, always.”
