Raymond and Sheila Find New Build Bliss in Frome

Raymond and Sheila Ricards had lived in older properties in the city of Bath for all their 52 years of marriage.

But when it came to downsizing they knew it was time to buy a new build.

Sheila explains: “Raymond was a builder so we always bought properties that needed work. But I’m 72 and he is 82 now so we wanted somewhere that was easy and needed no maintenance.

“We looked at several new build developments but really liked Wain Homes’ Keyford on The Green in Frome and when I looked at the site map saw one house which we fell for straight away. We had already sold our house and were staying with friends so it all went through very smoothly.”

The couple moved into their four-bedroom Hazel house-type in February and are loving both the house and being part of a thriving community.

Sheila explained: “The Wain Homes team have all been wonderful, keeping us informed all the way and Sam the site manager here has been so very helpful.

“We did have to get rid of lots of our things but you soon realise that you actually don’t need all the stuff you acquire over a lifetime – and it is really quite liberating.

“The house is easy to manage and keep tidy and the bills have been a lot cheaper than we had thought which was a pleasant surprise!”

The couple’s son and family live in Wells and their daughter in Rode so Keyford on the Green is perfectly positioned between the two.

Sheila added: “We are really enjoying living here. Our previous houses had big gardens and gates and it is lovely being able to step out of your door and meet people and everyone is very friendly. And, of course, we are close to all the shops. 

“Raymond has enjoyed doing the garden and he has just finished adding a porch.

“We have friends in the same position as us and they now want to get somewhere as lovely as we are. 

“We are only sad that we did not downsize to our new Wain home sooner.”
