Charity golf day raises £9000 for Age UK

South Gloucestershire Age UK is celebrating a £9,000 fundraising boost after being named our charity of the year.

The Thornbury-based charity, which supports older people, their families and carers across the region, has benefited from a series of fundraising activities organised by the Severn Valley team.

The fundraising got off to a flying start at our annual Severn Valley Golf Day at The Kendleshire Golf Club in Coalpit Heath. More than 100 golfers from across the property and construction industry took part, with 26 teams competing for the title. Team entries, sponsorship and an auction of donated prizes helped raise vital funds for South Gloucestershire Age UK.

The winning team was Brockworth-based Paul Sellick Brickwork, followed closely by Warmley-based Prodeck.

Colleagues also took part in the Bristol Dragon Boat Festival, raising a further £780 to be shared between South Gloucestershire Age UK and local Rotary charities.

South Gloucestershire Age UK is an independent charity dedicated to helping create a more age-friendly community. Its services include benefit checks, activity centres and home energy checks, as well as support to improve the homes, independence and wellbeing of older people.

Regional managing director, Nick Moore said: “Having visited South Gloucestershire Age UK, we were impressed by how much support the charity provides for older people and their families in our local communities.

“As an independent charity, they rely on the support of local businesses and volunteers to continue making a real difference and we are proud to name them our charity of the year.”

Mark Flower from South Gloucestershire Age UK said the partnership would have a lasting impact, helping the charity support older people to live independently, stay connected and access the help they need.

He added: “We are enormously grateful, not only for the generous donations raised, but also for the enthusiasm, commitment and partnership that Wain Homes’ colleagues have shown.”
