Severn Valley Team Make Waves for Bristol Charity
Our Severn Valley region had an ‘oar-some’ time competing at the Bristol Dragon Boat Festival and raised £2,000 for their charity of the year – The Brightwell.
Now in its 20th year, the event at Bristol’s Baltic Wharf, organised by Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club, is famous for its thrilling races, colourful costumes, and a spirit of camaraderie—all in aid of vital charitable causes.
This year’s proceeds will go towards tackling food insecurity, improving access to education, and providing shelter to those in need. Beneficiaries include community initiatives in Bristol and international projects in Nepal, South Africa, Uganda, and Kenya.
The Wain Homes team of 15 raced under the name The Hawaiian Shirt Crew and featured Maisie Boyd, Claire Hayward, Jessica Thorne, Nigel Harris, Joe Carleton, David Allsopp, Daniel Wilks, Dominika Kozlowska, Carl Tilton, Owain Morris, Bailey Davies, Nathanial Payne, James Marlow and Elliot Evans, along with Martin Rose and Ryan Perry from Rymar.
From 19 teams taking part, The Wain Homes team reached the semi-final and were second fastest team of the day.
Maisie Boyd, our regional marketing coordinator, said: “Thank you to everyone who sponsored the Hawaiian Shirt Crew and helped us raise much-needed funds for The Brightwell.
“Taking to the event like ducks to water, we had a splashing time, and we’ll promise not to don our garish shirts and grass skirts ever again if everyone reading this donates to The Brightwell!”
The event was the latest in a series of Wain Homes Severn Valley’s fundraising efforts for The Brightwell, which has been enhancing the lives of people living with chronic neurological conditions for more than 40 years and is based in Bradley Stoke.
