Wain Homes South West Supports Future Racing Stars

Our South West team revved up their support for a Newquay School as they took part in a national go-kart challenge.

A team of racers from Treviglas Academy took part in the Greenpower Challenge, which tasks students to design and build an electric-powered car and compete against other schools in an endurance race.

Faced with a long day racing around Predannack Air Field near Helston, the school reached out to Wain Homes and we donated a pit lane gazebo to shelter the team from the sun on one of the hottest days of the year. We also supplied the eight-strong team with breakfast and refreshments to keep them going throughout the challenge.

Charlotte Pollard, teacher at Treviglas Academy, said: “I don’t know what we would have done without Wain Homes’ support. It was the first year our school have taken part in the Greenpower Challenge and we knew we were in for a long day, starting at 7:30 in the morning and finishing in the late afternoon, so the gazebo provided by Wain gave us somewhere to shelter from the heat and let the team work on their car, fuelled of course by a tasty breakfast!”

Treviglas finished the race 17th out of 26 teams and 13th out of the kit cars that raced that day. It was a huge achievement for them to complete the race without any issues in their first year as this can be common for many teams. 

Suzie Wakefield, regional marketing coordinator at Wain Homes, said: “We are so proud of how well the team did, especially as this was the first time they have participated in this competition, and we were pleased to have helped a school local to one of our popular developments. 

“Our Trevemper development is just a few minutes from Treviglas Academy and we were pleased they represented Newquay so positively.”
