Wain Homes Supports New Peak District Community Centre
We were proud to attend the opening of the new Chinley & Buxworth Community Centre in Chinley in the magnificent Peak District.
The community has worked tirelessly fundraising to make the £1.3m centre a reality with support from the National Lottery, Sport England and Derbyshire County Council.
Wain Homes played a significant part, donating £40,000 as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting community improvements and activities.
Richard Chamberlain, managing director of Wain Homes North West, said: “It was an honour to attend and see first-hand what a fabulous place has been built.
“All credit goes to the community and the tireless fundraisers, who not only managed to raise the money needed for this magnificent building but also oversaw the build.
“It is a fantastic example of residents working together to further enhance a wonderful community.”
The bespoke centre, designed by d3Associates Ltd, replaces a previous wooden building that was 50 years old.
The new centre boasts a main hall with a terrace and views over the playing fields, social space with library, a multi-purpose meeting room, communal kitchen and changing rooms and is completely accessible.
An air source heat pump and solar panels provide renewable energy for light and heat and LED lighting and underfloor heating help reduce energy use.
The previous building was incredibly well used with 15 different sports available, a range of children’s clubs and activities and we are sure this new Centre will be the heart of the community.
We recently completed our Forge Manor development in Chinley and as part of that have also contributed £27,000 towards the provision and maintenance of cycle stands at Chinley railway station and shelters at the bus stop outside the station.
We also contributed £370,000 towards enhancing local primary and secondary education and £25,000 towards the purchase of open spaces, including allotments in Chinley.
As well as the £40,000 towards the community centre, Wain Homes has donated an additional £27,000 the purchase of new play equipment and other facilities within Chinley and the surrounding area.
We are currently building a collection of new homes at High Hill View in nearby New Mills and are also soon set to start work on a new development of 92 homes in Dinting Vale, Glossop.
Preparation work in Glossop is due to start shortly with sales expected to launch in September 2025with the first homes completed by early 2026.
