A Bristol pre-school has had vital maintenance work carried out – thanks to a team of Helping Hands from our Severn Valley region.
Ten Wain Homes colleagues spent the day at Greenslade pre-school in Nailsea carrying out a list of jobs to ensure the young pupils have the best learning environment possible.
School administrator Elizabeth Jones said: “We are a small pre-school and as a registered charity rely hugely on our parents and grandparents to fund raise and actually carry out any general maintenance work.
“But this time we needed some big jobs doing, like digging out the 4m x 4m sand pit and repairing and repainting our main building, which would have been too much for our volunteers.
“We put a call out for help and were absolutely thrilled when Wain Homes stepped forward to lend a helping hand. They did an amazing job and we cannot thank them enough.”
The Wain team arrived armed with tools and all the equipment needed and spent a full day at the school, repainting the building, sanding and painting wooden access ramps and emptying the giant sand pit which can now be repaired and refilled with new sand for the little ones to enjoy.
The volunteering was part of our Helping Hands initiative which will see more than 300 employees give a day back to helping in their local community.
Wain Homes Sales Director, Sarah Williams, said: “We were delighted to be able to help and it is surprising how much you can get done when you work as a team.
“As a company, we are committed to playing our part in the local communities in which we are building new homes and we all know how vital services like Greenslade provide are for families. It was a hugely satisfying day for the staff as well, knowing we had completed vital jobs that will ensure they can concentrate on teaching the children.”
