A village cricket club in Somerset has been able to kit out its junior teams and install a new score board thanks to a donation from Wain Homes.
The successful East Huntspill club has managed to increase the number of younger players in the last two years and wanted to field two teams in the Taunton Youth District Cricket League.
Wain agreed to sponsor the kit for the Under 13s and Under 11s and the two teams have just finished a successful season.
Club Secretary Kathryn Cooke said: “The drive to recruit more youngsters has gone brilliantly well, we got a really good response from both boys and girls and now have two mixed youth teams.
“We wanted to be able to offer them official Club kit of trousers and shirts to play in and are very grateful to Wain Homes for making this possible.”
The donation of £1,500 also allowed the club to buy a state of the art electronic scoreboard and Kathryn said: “The scoreboard has revolutionised our lives! It enables us to post the score via a lap top and automatically updates the scores online and on social media.
“The Cricket Club is a vital part of village life in East Huntspill and it is good that a developer that is now working in our village was able to support us and help the club grow. Our Thursday night training sessions are really busy and it’s been amazing for the Club.”
We are currently building a collection of 24, three, four and five-bedroom properties at our Brue Reach development, a site on New Road in the village.
Site manager Sam Cox together with colleague Leanne Moss went along to one of the regular training sessions to see the teams in action.
Technical Director, Jeremy Johnson said: “The club approached us and we were happy to help – it is about the community working together. Having official kit with the club’s logo on is great for team spirit and they all look incredibly smart.
“Who knows, some of the families moving into our new development may be cricket fans and will support and use the club which is a wonderful village amenity.”
Brue Reach is scheduled to launch for sale this autumn with lots of people already registering their interest. Click here to register yours.
