Wain Gives Merseyside Hospice Garden Makeover

Karl Richmond, a contracts manager in our North West region, was joined by 11 Wain Homes colleagues to give the grounds of a Merseyside hospice a summer makeover.

The team spent the day weeding, mowing lawns, painting benches, washing pathways, picking vegetables and turning the vegetable patch at Willowbrook Hospice in Prescot.

Karl also planted a rose bush in memory of his sister at the hospice which provides specialist palliative care for the Knowsley community.

The day was part of our ‘Helping Hands’ initiative, which will see more than 300 Wain employees volunteer a day to help out in their local community to mark our 50th anniversary this year.

Ian Turnball, volunteer engagement manager at Willowbrook Hospice, said: “A massive thank you to the Wain Homes team for their help and support, it certainly will make a difference.

“The team were a fabulous group of volunteers who were well organised, hard-working, an absolute delight to spend time with and who had a great work ethos of mutual respect and trust.  They would be most welcome back anytime.”

Wain Homes is currently building two, three, four and five-bedroom homes and one and two-bedroom apartments at our Heathfields development in Lowton, ten miles from Willowbrook Hospice and many of the Wain team are local to the area.

Wendy Dolan, Wain Homes sales office manager who helped organise the event, said: “The whole day was a fantastic experience from start to finish; a great opportunity to engage as a team and offer our help to a truly amazing place.

“We worked hard, supported each other and made a difference to a place that provides round the clock care to patients and their families. Everybody who volunteered was humbled by the experience and I am really proud to be a part of such an amazing team.”
