Anne Peacock finally achieved a lifelong dream by moving to her beloved Devon and is now settled into her first ever new build home at Wain Homes’ The Leighs development.
Retired Anne and her husband Jim spent the past five years living in Weston-Super-Mare and 40 years prior to that in Portishead, Somerset.
However, with family moving away, Anne and Jim decided the time was right relocate to the county they love so much and they chose a three-bedroom Christow housetype at The Leighs in Chudleigh, situated between Exeter and Newton Abbot.
Anne explains: “We’ve always wanted to live in Devon and love the South Hams district so we spent a long weekend looking at properties and locations before we came across The Leighs.
“There was one property available which was right in our price range and after having a walk around the show home and enjoying the amazing views from the development, it just felt so right.”
Anne and Jim, a former quantity surveyor, moved into their new home in December 2022 and have already seen the benefits of buying a new build home.
“We lived in a Victorian property in Weston-Super-Mare and there were always maintenance jobs needing doing, which were costly and time-consuming” explains Anne.
“It was also a cold house and we found we had the heating switched on nearly all day and night. Our new property is totally different, we hardly ever put the heating on, even in winter, and the two-tier heating system, which can heat upstairs and downstairs separately is so efficient, we are already noticing huge savings on our gas bills.
“Jim was immediately impressed with the build quality of our new Wain home and was thrilled by the high standards of all the fixtures and fittings, which is high praise given his career in the construction industry.”
Anne and Jim now plan to spend their time enjoying the many walks through the Devon countryside with their Cockapoo Roxy and getting to know their new neighbours and local town.
“It is a lovely area; we have the town just a few minutes walk away with all the shops and pubs and the central location means we can easily get to enjoy all areas of Devon” said Anne.
“It is also close to the Devon Expressway and only 15 minutes’ drive from Newton Abbott Station, so great for friends and family to come and visit.
“And The Leighs itself is a nice mixed community, with young couples, growing families and some retired couples like us.”
The couple also passed on their thanks to the Wain team which made their move stress free and enjoyable. Anne said: “Our sales executive, Gilly, was brilliant, keeping us informed all along and making sure our move went through on schedule and the site team were also great, especially Dave and Charlie who couldn’t do enough to ensure our complete happiness in our new home.
