Patricia Finds Her Happy Place in East Huntspill

After living in the Midlands for more than 30 years, Patricia Hill decided to enjoy her retirement by moving closer to family and friends in Somerset.

However, finding a new-build property with a lounge to the rear of the house in her desired locations was proving problematic and she was resigned to compromising on her ideal layout.

Patricia explains: “I eventually settled on a new-build property from another developer in Nether Stowey near Bridgwater but felt rushed to complete and that’s when I came across Brue Reach, Wain Homes’ development in East Huntspill.

“Being two-and-a-half hours away, I asked a friend who lives in nearby Bridgewater to go and visit the development and take a video tour of the site.

“My friend’s feedback was that if I didn’t buy a new home here, I would be struggling to find any I would like which intrigued me and I decided to visit myself.

“I was immediately impressed by the quality and design of the Haversham show home but it was the three-bedroom Brancaster I really wanted to see, as that had the lounge to the rear with doors opening out onto the garden.

“Luckily, there was a Brancaster that was being prepared for another customer and Wain Homes’ sales adviser, Carol, was able to show me around and I got that unmistakeable feeling that this was the one.”

Patricia put down a deposit on the spot and began researching the village that would become her new home.

“I had never heard of East Huntspill but I soon realised how close it was to all the seaside locations I visited as a child after I moved to Bristol aged five.

“We would spend summer holidays at Weston-super-Mare which is only 12 miles away and I’m only five miles from Burnham-on-Sea.

“There are lots of local walks, with two starting very close to the development and there are lots of pretty little villages and country pubs to explore.

“And, of course, being Somerset, I have also discovered the nearby cider farm just a mile up the road and have been sampling some of their lovely produce, purely in the name of research you understand!”

Having moved in in March 2023, Patricia only has good things to say about her experience of buying a Wain Homes property.

“The whole team at Brue Reach have looked after me brilliantly from the point of reservation to well beyond me moving in” explains Patricia.

“Carol has been so supportive and kept me calm throughout, reassuring me that everything would be okay even when there were some delays along the chain and she went above and beyond in accommodating my internal selection choices. She even arranged for the property to be painted in white rather than the standard colour, which other housebuilders in the past said couldn’t be done.

“And site manager Sam and the rest of the construction team have also been amazing. I am in the process of building a summer house in the huge rear garden and the site team have been giving me advice on creating a new patio. They even offer to help me take the bins out for collection; it’s as if nothing is too much trouble.”

Being the second resident to move into Brue Reach, Patricia is now enjoying meeting her new neighbours as more people begin occupying their new homes.

“Everybody seems really friendly and it is lovely seeing a new community coming together. I was happy to show a young couple around my home as they were keen to see a Brancaster and I’m pleased to hear they have bought here too.

“I’m so grateful everything turned out as it did. There’s a slower pace of life here and people seem less stressed and happier.

“It really is a lovely, friendly place to live.”
