Accrington continues to be a popular place to live, and it’s easy to see why. If you’re considering moving to the town with young children, you’ll be pleased to know that there are four schools in the local area rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted, as well as over 30 rated as “Good”. Those with “Outstanding” status include Accrington Peel Park Primary School, St Oswald’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Broadfield Special School and Oswaldtwistle White Ash School. The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is also around half an hour away in Preston.
The town itself is home to a wonderful Victorian market with independent shops and food stalls. The outside market also runs five days a week. Howarth Art Gallery is set in a beautiful building and promises some fantastic walks around its gardens, whilst Oak Hill Park covers 8.7 hectares and has a play area, tennis courts and Victorian bandstand. Sports lovers will also feel right at home in Accrington, with Accrington Stanley hosting League Two matches at the Wham Stadium.
Accrington also boats some great transport links, with both the M65 and M66 motorways close by. The town’s railway station is well connected with services to Manchester Victoria, Blackpool, York, Preston and Leeds. For international travel, Manchester Airport, Blackpool Airport and Leeds Bradford Airport are all within 30 miles of the town.
