WHY LEIGH IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
Once at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, and a former mining town, Leigh is a modern town that’s once again reinventing itself. Leigh received a huge investment in 2008 with the construction of Leigh Sports Village – a sports, housing and retail development that includes a 12,000 seat stadium. Leigh Sports Village has helped rejuvenate the area, turning Leigh into the regional success story it is today.
Leigh offers modern amenities and plenty to do, with a bustling town centre filled with local shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Leigh Sports Village includes a well-appointed gym, swimming pools and sports halls. It also hosts regular concerts and professional sports in its stadium - these include Leigh Leopards rugby league team and Manchester United WFC. The £50 million Loom retail park opened in 2017, and offers shopping, restaurants and a cinema.
The town is surrounded by picturesque Lancashire countryside and has plenty of green spaces on offer, including Pennington Flash Nature Reserve. A variety of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are in easy reach, including the Peak District and the Forest of Bowland.
For families looking to move to Leigh with school-age kids, you’ll be happy to find out that the town is served by a large number of highly rated schools. Leigh has 32 primary schools within three miles of the town, three of which are rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted and 24 as “Good”. Leigh has eight secondary schools, seven of which are rated “Good”.
