It boasts a thriving town centre, along Town Street and the High Street, with plenty of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses, plus a Friday market and larger monthly Sunday market. The community hosts many yearly events, including a large carnival and masque celebration in November that forms the 5th event in the West Country Carnival Circuit.

Shepton Mallet is ideally placed for travel throughout the region. The A37 runs through the town, connecting Shepton Mallet to Bristol to the north. Whilst the nearby A361 gives fast access to nearby Frome and Trowbridge.

Bristol is a short drive away, offering access to national rail travel, with London Paddington a little over 90 minutes by direct train. Bristol Airport also offers domestic and international flights.
